M.S. IN STATISTICAL SCIENCE

The M.S. in Statistical Science provides students with the computational, data analytic, and theoretical tools required to succeed in a career as a statistician. Our graduates are employed in industry and government, and work in diverse applications such as biomedical research, census and surveys, national security, among many others.

Degree Requirements: All students must complete 30 graduate credits, including four core courses (STAT 544, 554, 652, and 656). The professional option requires completion of 18 additional credits of course work beyond the core. The research option requires completion of 12 additional credits of course work beyond the core and 6 credits of independent research leading to a master’s thesis.

  • Admission requirements: A bachelors degree from an accredited institution (minimum 3.0 GPA) in a major that includes coursework in multivariable calculus, matrix algebra, and calculus-based probability and statistics.
