Financial Support for Full-Time Graduate Students

Note: Recipients of assistantships are not permitted to have outside employment.

Ph.D. STUDENTS:

Merck Graduate Fellowship:   New applicants only.  Cash fellowships for recruitment of exceptional, new, full-time Ph.D. students.

Presidential Graduate Research Assistant:  New applicants only.  A three year graduate research assistantship directed by a department faculty member. Salary: $18,000/9 months plus 18 credits tuition reimbursement. Renewable for each year if GPA > 3.5. New students only. Minimal requirement: 3.5 GPA at admission with 1200 combined GRE. One award each year.

Document Forensics Laboratory Research Assistants: U.S. citizens only.  Graduate research assistantships are available to conduct research in the Document Forensics Lab. Includes 40 hours/week summer research. Salary: $30,000/12 months plus 18 credits tuition. Minimal requirement: M.S. in Statistics or related field with 3.5 GPA. Potentially renewable.

Graduate Research Assistants:  Depending on external funding of faculty members, a limited number of GRAs for Ph.D. students may be available directed by a department faculty member. Salary: $16,585/9 months plus 12 credits tuition reimbursement. Some GRAs may include some summer support.

Graduate Teaching Assistants:  A limited number of teaching assistantships are available. Salary: $11,782 - $13,069/9 months plus 12 credits tuition reimbursement. A limited number of GTA positions are also available in summer (salary $2000).

Federal Government Internships/Work-Study/Fellowships: U.S. citizens only.  Several government agencies in the Fairfax/Washington area (Bureau of Labor Statistics, Census Bureau, and Department of Agriculture) offer a variety of programs to assist Ph.D. students who are U. S. citizens.

Merck Dissertation Fellowship:  A cash fellowship for full-time Ph.D. students advanced to candidacy. The application can be found here.

Volgenau School Graduate Fellowship:  A limited number of cash fellowships are awarded each year by the Volgenau School. The application can be found here.

M.S. STUDENTS:

Graduate Teaching Assistants:  A limited number of teaching assistantships are available. Salary: $10,211 - $11,319/9 months. A limited number of GTA positions are also available in summer (salary $2,000).
